Free Idea partners with hospitality platform Onda to establish an eco-friendly amenity system that reduces plastic waste and promotes sustainable hotel operations. Free Idea announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Onda, Korea’s largest accommodation platform, to introduce IoT dispensers and refillable amenities as part of its initiative to minimize plastic waste and advance ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices.
Through this partnership, the two companies will jointly develop an AI-driven operational efficiency system designed to reduce the use of plastic containers in hotel guest rooms.
Free Idea has already implemented smart hotel solutions using IoT-enabled dispensers and an ERP-based management system that collects and analyzes guest usage data to optimize amenity inventory and automate ordering processes. These innovations help hotels improve operational efficiency while offering eco-friendly, waste-reducing solutions.
Onda, a market leader in Korea’s hospitality digital transformation, has been at the forefront of optimizing hotel operations and distribution through technology. Its collaboration with Free Idea is seen as part of Onda’s strategy to create a sustainable tourism ecosystem grounded in ESG management.
Guided by the philosophy “Cool the Earth by 1°,” Free Idea promotes the continuous use of refillable amenities among guests and operates the Eco Stay Point program, which rewards participants for their contribution to carbon reduction. The company also provides AI-based marketing solutions that help hotels measure and enhance their ESG impact.
An Onda spokesperson stated, “The hospitality industry is now being redefined around environmental responsibility and data. This partnership will serve as a meaningful milestone for advancing ESG practices across the sector.”
Moving forward, the two companies plan to integrate Onda’s platform with Free Idea’s solutions to jointly run ESG campaigns and participate in both domestic and international exhibitions, accelerating ESG adoption throughout the hotel industry.
Meanwhile, Free Idea is part of the third cohort of IBK Changgong (Gwangju), a startup incubation platform operated by Chonnam National University Technology Holdings under the sponsorship of IBK Industrial Bank of Korea.
